Net-zero services

Ambitious and science-based net-zero targets are increasingly the norm and increasingly expected by customers, suppliers and other significant stakeholders. Ever since COP21, better known as the Paris Climate Change Agreement in 2016, we have seen many businesses and countries committing to reduce their emissions and announcing net-zero target dates. This has been incredibly encouraging, but it is also important that these targets are both robust and ambitious.

We help our clients align their net-zero targets and communications to best-practice standards, such as SBTi, and help them meet the disclosure requirements of CDP’s and TCFD’s metrics and targets.

In reality, a net-zero target means reducing a companies absolute emissions by 90-95% by or before 2050.

Simply Sustainable’s approach to net-zero target setting is as follows:

  • Set near- and long-term targets:
In order to align to net-zero standards such as SBTi, companies are required to set intermediate targets so that they can track their progress.
  • Focus on rapid, deep emissions cuts:
Companies should focus on the next 5 to 10 years in order to be certain on the actions, initiatives and financial implications necessary for thinking on a longer-term basis and integrating predicted transition scenarios.
  • No net-zero claims until long-term targets are met:
It is imperative to engage in this process in the short term, as well as be thinking ahead towards the end goal.

We would also recommend the final element: Go beyond your value chain.

Net-zero has been identified as the number one priority ESG topic that needs to be addressed. GRESB

At Simply Sustainable we support companies with setting net-zero targets through two approaches:

Top-down:
What is required for a company to align to science and to meet the requirements of the likes of SBTi.

Bottom-up:
What is likely to happen throughout a company’s operations, supply chain and industry more broadly and therefore what is the gap or delta.

When working with clients on a net-zero target, we ensure that the target is not only in line with the science and at the right level of ambition but also, and most importantly, deliverable. We will always ensure that we work with you to create a net-zero strategy to sit alongside your net-zero targets. This strategy will outline the deep decarbonisation required to meet your target. Our team of experts carry out industry analysis to understand the decarbonisation pathway of your sector and work closely with your teams to develop bespoke carbon reduction projects for your business.

We work with you to identify the areas of transformation required to achieve your net-zero targets and set out a time-line of decarbonisation actions aligning to your net-zero target dates. We identify and prioritise actions that rapidly reduce carbon emissions to ensure that you are able to hit ambitious reduction targets.

Our five-step process ensures that each strategy is bespoke and built around the needs or ambitions of each client.

  1. Areas of opportunity
  2. Facilitated thinking workshops
  3. In-depth review of carbon reduction pathways
  4. Deep decarbonisation modelling scenarios
  5. Clear outputs and deliverables
