Earlier this month, we organised a Sustainability Strategy Masterclass, to discuss the latest sustainability concepts that companies need to consider when developing their strategies. In line with our values and mission to “create a world of sustainable, responsible businesses”, we donated all proceeds to a local charity, DENS. Based in Hemel Hempstead, DENS supports those facing poverty and homelessness in the Dacorum area through their foodbank, day centre, temporary accommodation and other vital services. Our team was invited to visit their premises and was inspired by the amazing work of the charity to tackle poverty and homelessness in the area.

In 2017, around 4500 people slept rough on the streets every night (more than double the amount in 2010), and over 57,000 households were accepted as homeless in the UK. Businesses have a critical role to play in preventing homelessness, by providing decent work conditions and support, particularly to those employees or potential employees experiencing difficulties in their lives. Organisations like DENS provide homeless people and those facing challenging circumstances with critical support, building soft and employability skills to help them get back on their feet.
