Simply Sustainable welcomes former BITC Corporate Adviser to new Director post
Award winning sustainability consultancy Simply Sustainable, is delighted to announce the appointment of new Director, Alasdair Marks, who joins from his previous role as Corporate Adviser with Business in the Community (BITC), HRH the Prince of Wales’s responsible business network.
Alasdair brings with him more than 10 years of leadership experience and extensive knowledge of sustainability and corporate responsibility. This is thanks, in part, to a Master’s Degree in Corporate Responsibility from London Metropolitan University but also to the wide-ranging nature of his role at BITC. Here, he supported a cross-section of BITC’s leading members to develop and deliver integrated business strategies with responsibility at their core. This involved working on a broad spectrum of CR approaches with companies from numerous sectors including Telecommunications, FMCG, Utilities, Construction and Engineering, Financial Services, Retail and Facilities Management, with the opportunity to work closely with clients on both an ongoing and project basis in order to drive strategy and maximise impact. Highlights included supporting National Grid to become BITC’s coveted Responsible Business of the Year in 2014/15.
Alasdair also pioneered a series of defining content-led projects targeted at more effectively supporting some 750 BITC members. These included the creation of a new CR integration and maturity framework, which now form the basis of a number of core BITC member services, and the development of a new method for calculating the business value of CR. He also led the development of a new legislation work stream to support companies faced with the swathe of current and forthcoming responsible business-related legislation in the UK.
This heavyweight sustainability experience will play a key part in Alasdair’s new position at Simply Sustainable, where he will be responsible for meeting the company’s growth goals, as well as building on the firm’s outstanding reputation for service and delivery to clients.
Prior to working with BITC, Alasdair spent ten years at Criteria Fieldwork, where as part of the leadership team he supported the company’s growth to become the largest dedicated qualitative fieldwork agency in the UK.
As Nicola Stopps, CEO, Simply Sustainable, explains, “Alasdair’s track record, knowledge, and contacts in the profession are second to none and we are delighted to have him on board. Attracting someone of his calibre into the business is a great endorsement of our strategy and ambition. Alasdair brings with him incredibly strong CR and sustainability experience, both professionally and academically, which will be vital as we continue our ambitious plans to grow and develop innovative sustainability solutions for our clients.”
Alasdair adds, “Simply Sustainable has a deserved reputation as a cutting-edge sustainability specialist in the corporate market place. I think we have a tremendous opportunity to grow further and continue to diversify into new sectors, bringing our strong business values and service delivery to match the demands and rightly high expectations of existing and new clients. The Simply Sustainable brand, values and proven CSR delivery models are facets I have respected over many years, and I am excited to be on board and part of the great team that will take these to the next level.”
This appointment follows hard on the heels of that of Iona Neilson who joined the company as Project Analyst in April.
