Nicola Stopps

CEO

Nicola Stopps is CEO of Simply Sustainable. Nicola has 20 years’ experience in sustainability and ESG having worked for some of the largest companies in the world.

Since founding Simply Sustainable in 2010, Nicola has worked with a number of international and national organisations on developing their CSR and sustainability programmes.

Previous roles include; Head of Corporate Responsibility at T-Mobile, Director of Sustainability and Environment at Travelodge Hotels, as well as working for DHL and the BBC. Nicola holds a Geography degree from University of Exeter and received her Master’s in Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing from the University of East Anglia in 1999.

Nicola has a proven capability to deliver high-quality projects on time and on budget. She has gained a reputation of someone who ‘gets the job done’ and has experience working in a wide range of sectors. With firm foundations in environmental management and experience in successfully implementing sustainability and ESG strategies, Nicola is nationally recognised as a leader in the field of corporate sustainability and ESG. She is a Fellow of IEMA and the RSA and sits on the CBI Energy and Climate Change Committee and was elected as a CBI Council Member for the East of England.


Alasdair Marks

Director

Alasdair Marks is Director of Simply Sustainable. Alasdair joined the team in 2017 bringing more than 10 years of leadership roles and extensive corporate sustainability knowledge and expertise.

Alasdair leads projects for our clients across our service areas including strategy development, materiality assessment, integration planning, reporting and ESG. He is passionate about helping companies to pursue sustainability strategies that underpin commercial goals and enhance future success.

Prior to joining Simply Sustainable, Alasdair worked at the responsible business charity and membership organisation Business in the Community where he worked with a cross-section of leading businesses to develop and deliver integrated business strategies with responsibility at their heart.

Alasdair, who has a Masters degree in Corporate Responsibility from London Metropolitan University, has a proven track record of supporting companies to adopt ambitious yet practical approaches to sustainability that drive progress, performance and impact.

Katherine Rolfe

Senior Consultant

Katherine is a Senior Consultant at Simply Sustainable. Katherine joined the team in September 2020 bringing over 20 years’ experience working in the sustainability and environmental management profession.

Katherine joined us from Heathrow, where she worked in various sustainability and environmental management roles. Most recently, she led the development and implementation of their ambitious sustainability strategy, Heathrow 2.0. This involved working closely with all levels of the organisation to help them understand the business value of sustainability and engaging colleagues and teams to inspire them to deliver a culture change in sustainability. Highlights included being part of the team to win Edie’s Sustainable Business of the Year award in 2019.

Prior to working at Heathrow, Katherine worked in both the consultancy and charitable sectors providing practical advice on environmental strategy and management practices to a range of sectors and businesses, including: large multinationals, government departments, and SMEs.

Katherine, who is a Chartered Environmentalist, has expertise across a wide range of sustainability areas, including: sustainability strategy development, ESG, sustainability integration, sustainability reporting and benchmarking, engagement and behaviour change, developing and implementing management systems, and stakeholder engagement.


Ross Houghton

Senior Consultant

Ross Houghton is a Senior Consultant at Simply Sustainable and brings  many  years’ experience  of in-house  Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability across a wide range  of sectors.

Ross joined us from Atalian Servest, one of the world’s largest facilities management companies, where he was responsible for leading their Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, and monitoring progress in all areas of sustainability. Ross’s academic qualifications and experience give him expertise in areas including sustainability challenges and opportunities, policy, diversity and inclusion, sustainability good practice, analysis and reporting, modern slavery, and responsible procurement. Ross has held a number of roles within the UK and has international experience.   During his time at Atalian Servest Ross worked with a number of leading brands developing and advising on sustainable solutions and has experience working with the public and private sector.

Ross’s highlights include holding the position of Associate to the CEO at Atalian Servest allowing him to undertake a number of projects on behalf of the senior leadership team and being recognised by edie.net as one of their 30 under 30 Rising Stars of Sustainability in 2019.


Lizzie Walsh

Consultant

Joining the Simply Sustainable team in January 2021, Lizzie gained her experience as an associate consultant at Environmental Resources Management (ERM), where she worked with large global corporations across many sectors on sustainability reporting, supply chain analysis, life cycle assessments and sustainability strategy. Working in the assurance team, Lizzie analyzed water and waste management, carbon accounting, renewable energy certificates and carbon offsetting, as well as advising clients on how to improve their data management and overall sustainability reporting. Lizzie has extensive experience with reporting bodies such as GRI and SASB. Looking beyond the environment, Lizzie is passionate about gender equality and was the expert in Gender Pay Gap reporting for the team.

Lizzie has a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Environment and Development from King’s College London. During her master’s year she worked for a coral reef NGO, the International Coral Reef Initiative, where she contributed to a published report on international coral reef funding with the UN Environment Programme. After completing her master’s degree, Lizzie worked for the global public opinion and data company, YouGov, as a research analyst becoming skilled at analyzing data and statistics.


Svenja Nebert

Consultant

Svenja joined Simply Sustainable as a Consultant in January 2021. Svenja is originally from Germany and moved to the UK to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Durham University. Studying Business Ethics in her final year and writing essays on topics including the social responsibility of business sparked her interest in pursuing a career in sustainability consulting.

After completing her degree, she briefly worked for TJX Europe and the research consultancy ERS before joining Accenture as a Consulting Analyst. During her two years at Accenture she worked mainly in the Consumer Goods and Retail sectors and gained experience in sustainability and supply chain strategy, stakeholder engagement, project management and communications.

She particularly enjoyed working on various sustainability-related projects, gaining knowledge of a range of sustainability areas including strategy development, benchmarking, ESG ratings and carbon offsetting. She is a member of IEMA.


Anokhi Kalayil

Consultant

Anokhi joined Simply Sustainable as a Consultant in June 2021. Anokhi gained her consulting experience at a Management Consultancy before working in sustainability at Action Sustainability and now Simply Sustainable. Anokhi has experience across many sectors on project management, change management, business analysis, data analysis, and carbon reporting and accounting.

Anokhi gained her data analysis skills at an international development NGO, where she conducted analysis on seed bank yields, income per capita, gender imbalance, and table banking in small communities. Anokhi’s work in this sector ignited her interest in sustainability.

Anokhi graduated from Warwick University with a BSc in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics, and Economics. In Anokhi’s first job after university she joined the CSR and Diversity & Inclusion teams and led many initiatives such as writing the company’s D&I approach, organising sports fundraising events for YoungMinds, and embedding an open and positive mental health culture in the company.


Lauren Hyatt

Consultant

Lauren joined Simply Sustainable as a consultant in July 2021. Lauren holds a BSc in Geography & LLM in Environmental Law attained from the University of Sussex. During Laurens master’s year, she volunteered in a project with Pesticide Action Network drafting a proposed amendment for the Post-Brexit Agricultural Bill. The amendment called for a quantified limit on pesticide usage and was successfully taken up by MPs in February 2019.

After completing her degree, Lauren gained consulting experience working at Kite Insights. During her time at Kite, Lauren contributed to the delivery of client projects by conducting research, collecting data, and writing in-depth literature reviews.

In advance of joining Simply Sustainable, Lauren was an elected Sustainability Ambassador at Superdry Plc and worked alongside the sourcing department implementing ESG strategies in London retail stores. In conjunction with her ambassador role, Lauren worked in head-office analysing the environmental footprint of products, monitoring water & waste KPI’s for the annual report and creating biodiversity policies.

Lauren is a member of IEMA and UKELA.


Chris Goodman

Associate Consultant

Chris has 20 years of experience in environmental management, largely gained within the energy and infrastructure industry. He holds a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia and received his Master’s in Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing from the University of Wales in 2000.

Chris worked as an Environmental Advisor within Shell UK and BP Exploration for around 9 years, supporting onshore and offshore oil and gas operations and projects in the UK and Europe. In these roles, his key responsibilities included assuring all aspects of environmental compliance; developing, maintaining and auditing ISO14001-certified environmental management systems (EMS); compiling, assuring, analysing and reporting environmental data; and driving improved environmental data forecasting and performance management processes.  Since 2009, Chris has worked as a consultant, focussing on the identification and management of environmental risk and the integration of environmental impact assessment, regulatory requirements and international standards within the design development process.  He has also undertaken specific projects related to EMS improvement and the implementation of environmental management and sustainability strategies.


Craig Dun

Associate Consultant

Craig is our Senior Carbon Modeller specialising in carbon accounting, modelling, target setting and carbon management plans. ​ After studying Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering both to Masters Degree level, Craig has over nine years of experience working on carbon and climate change projects in consultancy roles and for the Sustainable Scotland Network.

Craig is expert in carbon accounting, climate change reporting and policy. Having developed the guidance for the current public bodies duties on climate change reporting, he can undertake writing of reports or auditing completed reports prior to submission.​ Craig has six years of strong experience in data management, highly skilled in interpreting data and subsequently extracting and manipulating that data for a non-technical audience.​

He is also a senior carbon modeller (spreadsheet developer) with experience building models, complex spreadsheets and visualisation dashboards for both UK and EU governments to high QA standards.​  From compliance with European and UK standards, to developing climate change governance models and calculating emissions, Craig can assist with the processes involved in helping organisations and businesses in developing carbon management, targets and/or sustainability plans.​


Emma Young

Associate Consultant

Emma is passionate about the power of communication and story to inspire and create positive, authentic change. Operating across the communications spectrum from strategy creation to, sustainability report writing, programme development and deployment, Emma has worked with a wide range of organisations, from small charities to multinationals.

With a background in marketing and PR, Emma has more than 20 years experience in the profession, nine of which at BT Group where she created and oversaw the delivery of the global sustainability communication strategy. Emma is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (ICRS) and the RSA. She is also an Accredited Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).


Melanie Kenny

Associate Consultant

Melanie has career-long experience in general environmental management and sustainability, spanning a wide range of sectors and issues but with a focus on management systems, training and practical environmental performance improvement. Melanie is a member of IEMA and an experienced environmental sustainability specialist with broad-based expertise and a good appreciation of business needs and processes. Melanie has a particular interest in the translation of sustainability strategy into practice to deliver real-world improvements and business benefits.

Most recently Melanie has worked with Balfour Beatty as an Environment & Sustainability Specialist, prior to which she was Environment Manager at Heathrow for ten years. Whilst at Heathrow, Melanie had particular responsibility for supporting the development of the sustainability strategy, Heathrow 2.0, integrating the strategy through the management system and embedding sustainability into development and construction projects. Through training and employee engagement initiatives she worked to build the internal culture needed to support action on sustainability across the company. This experience at Heathrow followed 20 years consultancy experience specialising in environmental due diligence, EHS management systems, compliance auditing and training delivery for multinational and financial sector clients. Prior to that Melanie trained and worked as an analytical chemist, specialising in environmental and occupational hygiene analysis.


Rupert Clark-Lowes

Associate Consultant

Rupert has worked in the sustainability industry for over 6 years, managing global clients across several compliance and voluntary services. Among the companies he has worked for is a boutique and carbon sustainability consultancy, and multinational commercial real estate services company Cushman & Wakefield.

Rupert’s areas of expertise encompass a wide range of sustainability services, among which: Sustainability Benchmarking and Reporting (GRESB, CDP, UNPRI, GHG Protocol); Responsible Property Investment; Environment and Social Governance Strategies; Regulatory Compliance and Risk Mitigation (CRC, GHG, ESOS/EED, MEES); Carbon, Energy and Sustainability Data Measurement, Reporting and Assurance; Stakeholder Communications and Engagement; Energy and Sustainability Data Systems; Health and Wellbeing.

Clients Rupert has worked with include: Coca-Cola Enterprises, Aviva, Deutsche Bank, RBS, Harley Davidson, DTZ Investors, New River, TIAA Henderson Real Estate, Invesco, VMware, MS Amlin, Polycom, Japanese Tobacco International, Compass Group.


Sam Somerville

Associate Consultant

With over 15 years of management system experience spanning across the public and private sector, Sam has been supporting Simply Sustainable clients to implement or improve their systems since 2017.

As a principle UK expert for quality management systems, and as a lead auditor for ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 and 45001:2018, Sam takes a practical and business-focused approach to help organisations build quality, sustainability and safety into their operations to meet the requirements of standards for quality, environment and health and safety.

She uses her experience of a breadth of industries to work collaboratively with clients to support the development of lasting improvements in their performance to help maximise opportunities for long-term growth.


Sara Moran

Executive Assistant to CEO

Sara Moran is the Executive Assistant to Nicola Stopps, CEO of Simply Sustainable, and our Office Manager. Sara joined the Simply Sustainable team in January 2021 and has a background of supporting C-Suite executives in companies such as Dixons Carphone, AstraZeneca and easyJet over the past 20 years.

Sara offers a full range of administrative, HR and business support services to aid more efficient and focused working for the whole Simply Sustainable team.
