Nicola Stopps

CEO

Nicola Stopps is CEO of Simply Sustainable. Nicola has 20 years’ experience in sustainability and ESG having worked for some of the largest companies in the world.

Since founding Simply Sustainable in 2010, Nicola has worked with a number of international and national organisations on developing their CSR and sustainability programmes.

Previous roles include; Head of Corporate Responsibility at T-Mobile, Director of Sustainability and Environment at Travelodge Hotels, as well as working for DHL and the BBC. Nicola holds a Geography degree from University of Exeter and received her Master’s in Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing from the University of East Anglia in 1999.

Nicola has a proven capability to deliver high-quality projects on time and on budget. She has gained a reputation of someone who ‘gets the job done’ and has experience working in a wide range of sectors. With firm foundations in environmental management and experience in successfully implementing sustainability and ESG strategies, Nicola is nationally recognised as a leader in the field of corporate sustainability and ESG. She is a Fellow of IEMA and the RSA and sits on the CBI Energy and Climate Change Committee and was elected as a CBI Council Member for the East of England.

Alan is CFO of Simply Sustainable. Alan is a chartered accountant and has spent over 27 years working in private equity businesses both as an investor and a portfolio company director. He has extensive experience working with growing businesses and in M&A and across a range of sectors including professional services, media, leisure and industrial products.

Jane Cumisky

Jane is a sustainability and corporate communications specialist with more than 20 years of experience delivering external and internal initiatives. Having a strong record of work with companies to understand and make the right decisions, engage stakeholders with performance updates and thought leadership outlooks; Jane demonstrates strong performance on creating best in class sustainability strategies that drive substantial change and continual progress for clients.

Being an ESG reporting professional with a focus on developing engaging environmental and societal disclosures, Jane was a key member of a top 5 FTSE Sustainable Business team that drove the delivery of sustainability strategy and core transparency agenda. In addition, Jane was a lead consultant on establishing a newly-formed ESG Board committee reporting to the Board of Directors and Chairman.

Hands on experience with TCFD Reporting, committing to Science-based targets for emission reductions for SBTi validation and developing Carbon Disclosure Project submissions. Currently, Jane is the Managing Consultant at Simply Sustainable to ensure that the business landscape deliver on sustainability through climate change action, social value creation and progressive business management.

Sytze Dijkstra

Netherlands Country Manager

Sytze Dijkstra is the Country Manager of Simply Sustainable Netherlands. He has over 15 years of experience in sustainability strategy and sustainable energy.

Before joining Simply Sustainable, he led sustainability research at Accenture, shaping and delivering Thought Leadership on topics including pathways to net-zero emissions, circular economy business models and policies, and energy system flexibility. He also acted as Chief of Staff to the Netherlands Country Managing Director.

Prior to Accenture, Sytze held various roles sustainability consulting and research in the Netherlands and the UK.

Throughout his career, Sytze has advised companies around the world and across industries on strategies for accelerating the transition to sustainable business practices, bring expertise in modelling transition scenarios and developing roadmaps, evaluating business cases and assessing progress.

Sytze has an MSc in Environmental Sustainability from the University of Edinburgh.

Joaska Mischke

Head of ESG and Sustainability Strategy

Joaska is our driven and dynamic Head of ESG and sustainability strategy who is passionate about supporting organisations in the development and integration of their ESG strategy.

Joaska joined us from Chaucer where she worked on delivering business change projects in highly challenging environments. She operates at all levels of an organisation to ensure a successful delivery and to embed a long lasting and sustainable culture change. She was also a sustainability strategy advisor developing and rolling out sustainability initiatives across organisations and she was responsible for the delivery of various business change projects.

Prior to her role at Chaucer Joaska provided tailored advice to C-level stakeholders on the development and execution of their organisational and culture transformations at Gartner.

Joaska holds a MSc in Management, Organisations and Governance from the LSE and has completed various sustainability courses such as Sustainable Business Strategy from HBS, Business Sustainability Management from University of Cambridge and Setting Science Based Targets from UN Global Compact and is in the process of becoming a GRI Sustainability Professional.

Henry Unwin

Henry Unwin

Head of Climate and Carbon

Throughout his career, Henry has worked for a range of organisations including environmental start-ups, charities, regional government, sustainability consultancies and in-house.

After advising Nando’s as a consultant Henry went on to join the restaurant group as their Head of Sustainability. Over his 5 years at the organisation, Henry and the team reduced the carbon footprint of the average meal by 40%, reduced direct emissions by 98% and donated over 2.5 million meals through their industry-leading food donation programme. In 2020 the company became the first restaurant group in the world with an approved Science-Based Targets initiative and a continued commitment to better chicken welfare.

In 2021 Henry joined Daylesford Organic and Bamford as their Director of Sustainability where he was responsible for keeping these pioneering businesses at the forefront of sustainability. Henry drove impact throughout the supply chain: from organic and regenerative farming practices, through to hospitality, retail, clothing, skincare and spas. During his time at the company, Henry led the creation of its sustainability strategy and projects on soil carbon assessment, product and corporate carbon footprinting and sustainability comms. This culminated in the group achieving B Corp accreditation.

Ed Packshaw

Head of Reporting and Communications

Ed joins the Simply Sustainable team with over 12 years experience in ESG and corporate sustainability, combining both in-house sustainability leadership roles with client leadership and project management expertise, across a range of sectors, including real estate, construction, education and pharmaceuticals.

As our Head of ESG Reporting and Communications, Ed is responsible for leading clients through their disclosure journey, driving continuous improvement and transparency to deliver impactful and comparable reporting practices that align with a wide-range of stakeholder expectations and help clients present their achievements and goals towards becoming a truly sustainable and profitable business.

Ed has a wealth of experience in international standard and frameworks, including TCFD, SASB, ISSB, CDP, SDGs, GRI, UNGC and a detailed understanding of UK, EU and US regulations and compliance requirements.

Alongside his professional experience, Ed holds a diploma in Sustainable Finance from the University of Cambridge, professional qualifications in Environmental Management and Carbon Management from IEMA and an honours degree in Zoology & Biological Sciences from the University of Edinburgh.

Andrea Gamble

Senior Consultant – Reporting and Communications

Andrea Gamble joined Simply Sustainable in July 2022, bringing with her over a decade of environmental consulting experience and the completion of a MSc in Environmental Management. She has built a successful career working in the energy industry, managing client reclamation programs and facilitating the delivery of professional technical reports. Working to ensure regulatory compliance of client projects, Andrea is well-versed in optimising the requirements of multiple stakeholders. Her skills in data management have supported her company and clients, ensuring the efficient execution of work and adherence to budgets. As a senior professional with a growing company, Andrea helped establish standard operating procedures, develop templates, and deliver training to enhance team competencies.

It was during Andrea’s time at Kingston University that her passion for corporate sustainability flourished. Through her studies she gained insight on environmental best management practices and the challenges faced by companies looking to improve their environmental impact. Her dissertation evaluated the Scope 3 carbon footprint of a facilities management company’s supply chain. Findings illuminated key areas to focus on for emissions reduction and further data capture, providing valuable insight to maximise the effectiveness of company resources.

Will Bourns

Senior Consultant – Climate and Carbon Services

Will joined Simply Sustainable in April 2022 after working at an environmental think tank working in the media industries. During this time, Will was part of the team that created a global emissions calculator tool enabling the film and tv industry to quantify their emissions at a level of granularity per hour of content. The tool is now used by 2,700 companies. Throughout his career Will has also worked on procurement strategies and industry sustainability working groups on buildings and infrastructure, Scope 3 calculations and energy benchmarking for datacentres and the digital supply chains as well as supporting companies in their SECR and ESOS reporting.

Will holds a BSc in Zoology from the University of Liverpool, specialising in Biomechanics and Genetics. Seeing the human impact on the environment has led to Will pursuing his interest in the field of sustainability. He also developed skills in big data analysis, carbon and biodiversity accounting through quantifying the human impact on nature.

Whilst at Simply Sustainable, Will has worked on a number of carbon projects calculating carbon footprints across the building, food and beverage and leisure sectors including SECR reporting and SBTi submissions.

Lauren Hyatt

Senior Consultant – ESG and Sustainability Strategy

Lauren is a Senior Consultant at Simply Sustainable, supporting the delivery of a range of client projects. She holds a BSc in Geography & LLM in Environmental Law from the University of Sussex. While at university, Lauren volunteered on a project with Pesticide Action Network drafting proposed amendments for the Post-Brexit Agricultural Bill and chaired the local Friends of the Earth group overseeing the biodiversity campaign.

Lauren became drawn to consulting following her internship at Kite Insights. During her time at Kite, Lauren assisted a range of organisations in making a meaningful positive impact on social and environmental issues through objective research, data analysis and convening.

Following her experience at Kite, Lauren worked at Superdry Plc, conducting product lifecycle analysis’, monitoring environmental KPIs for annual reports and developing environmental policies for the business. She was also the elected Sustainability Ambassador for Greater London and worked alongside the sourcing department to implement the business’s sustainability strategy and drive its ambition to be the most sustainable fashion brand by 2030.

Lauren is a member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and the UK Environmental Law Association (UKELA)

Ailsa Dormon

Senior Consultant

Ailsa is a Senior Consultant at Simply Sustainable. With a background in innovation and sustainability consulting Ailsa is driven by helping businesses to think big and take action.

Ailsa obtained a first-class master’s degree in physics from the University of Exeter, after which she worked at a brand and innovation Agency guiding well-known brands in sustainable and innovative strategy and communications. Here she worked with start-ups developing biotechnology solutions to support design before moving to an innovation consultancy at which she led a range of purpose driven innovation programmes. She then moved to a sustainability consultancy where she helped clients to solve large strategic challenges. It was here that Ailsa began developing sustainability strategies for businesses and embedding sustainable practises across the full breadth of environmental and social subject areas. 


As a Senior Consultant at Simply Sustainable, Ailsa works across both the ESG and Sustainability Strategy and Reporting and Communications teams. Ailsa has specific experience in developing and implementing agile sustainability strategies and action plans for corporate clients with a strong expertise in navigating the reporting landscape. At Simply Sustainable, she uses this insight to provide clear and actionable strategic support to clients looking to make progress on the biggest issues facing business and finance today.

Cameron Wilson

Consultant

Cameron is a Consultant at Simply Sustainable. Cameron holds an LLB in Law from Lancaster University where he gained a strong interest in environmental law, human rights law, and business ethics.

Before joining Simply Sustainable, he worked for 18-months in the field of corporate sustainability, supporting in the implementation of various international sustainability standards for organisations such as ISO 14001 & ISO 50001 for environmental and energy management. Most recently, Cameron supported the Cabinet Office and Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office in achieving ‘ISO 20121 – sustainable events management’ for the G7 Summit in Cornwall and COP26 in Glasgow. In addition, Cameron supported in making COP26 the first UN Climate Change Conference to achieve the PAS2060 international standard on carbon neutrality.

Cameron is currently working towards IEMA Associate membership.

Simply Sustainable Consultant Maria Serrano

Maria Serrano

Consultant

Maria is a performance driven and highly motivated sustainability professional who has developed her skills and expertise in house and most recently within consultancy. She has experience working across the energy and housing sectors and is specialised in carbon footprinting, completing assessments of Scopes 1-3 aligned to GHG Protocol and ISO14064-3 including verification assurance for non-financial reporting and supporting clients’ CDP submissions. Maria has gained an understanding of ESG as she worked on responsible business assessments which enabled clients to understand their risks and opportunities for the development of ESG strategies. Most recently, Maria worked with a client in the education sector by upskilling them on data collection for their baseline year of carbon reporting and to form the basis of their journey to net-zero.

Prior to working in consultancy, Maria delivered the audits and submissions of energy-saving improvement projects in the homes of low-income and vulnerable UK households to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in the housing sector by 2050 as part of the ECO Government scheme.

While studying Environmental Science at Oxford Brookes University Maria worked on a consultancy project for a construction client which involved determining alternative technologies to decrease the company’s carbon footprint in specific reference to on-site diesel generators for construction machinery and fuel used in company car fleet. This was a main driver that influenced her interest to pursue a sustainability career.

Maria has been accredited a Grad IEMA membership and is working towards Practitioner status. She also holds a GHG reporting certification from the Supply Chain Sustainability School.

Harry Freeman

Consultant

Harry joined Simply Sustainable is a Consultant at Simply Sustainable, working within the Climate and Carbon team.

He obtained a BSc in Property Finance and Investment, with his passion for sustainability budding through observing the ramifications formed through the built environment. Harry strengthened his knowledge and passion through his dissertation, investigating the implication of the UK’s carbon reduction targets on the automotive property market.

Harry is working with clients across all sectors on data curation and management for GRI and GRESB submissions and supporting client delivery with robust data analysis overlaid with the latest insights on ESG data management.

Harry is an Affiliate member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) and is working towards GradIEMA.

Simply Sustainable employee Camila Segura

Camila Segura

Consultant

Camila is a Consultant at Simply Sustainable. She finished her postgraduate studies with an MSc in Global Sustainability Solutions from the University of Exeter in 2022 and holds a BEng in Environmental Engineering.

Motivated by her passion for striving for solutions to sustainability challenges and understanding complex systems, she led and co-developed her dissertation project with Systemiq Ltd about how to accelerate private financing towards the protection and restoration of natural systems.

This experience strengthened her problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as encouraged her to think of problems in a systemic way. Camila has previously performed in the consultancy sector in analysing and facilitating up-to-date information about ESG international frameworks and standards while contributing to the development of a non-industry-specific Supply Chain Sustainability Performance and risk assessment tool based on sustainability policies, certifications and strategies.

During a former role, Camila worked in the environmental services world by processing and analysing geographic information systems GIS, which is important for river basin ordinance and management of land planning. She also has experience in waste management consultancy. In addition, while studying and working, Camila has volunteered in different projects including green and health campaigns for the Red Cross, administrative roles in theatre, musical and scientific events, as well as research for international alliances such as the GSI and FOLU.

Simply Sustainable employee Mila Fenton

Mila Fenton-O’Creevy

Consultant

Mila is a first-class MA Sustainable Development, Politics, and International Relations graduate from the University of Edinburgh. In her dissertation she explored the ill-preparedness of representative democracies to effectively manage future global risks such as climate change, and carried out three forms of qualitative research to understand the role that future digitised forms of democracy might play in climate change mitigation. Mila received the Russell Keat Prize for the best dissertation in Politics and International Relations at the University of Edinburgh.

During her time as a student, Mila was a member of the founding committee of the Citizens’ Assembly and Reform Society. Additionally, she set up a small jewellery business, of which she donates 100% of the profits to an eco-conscious charity providing aid to refugees in Northern France.

Before university, Mila embarked on a three-month project with VSO in Tanzania where she worked with small businesses in the Lindi region developing strategies to increase their profitability. Here, she also held gender equality sessions in secondary schools, and managed a number of community education days on various social justice issues. She climbed both Ben Nevis and Mount Snowdon in efforts to fundraise for this trip.

Ella Narain Simply Sustainable Consultant

Ella Narain

Consultant

Ella is a specialist in ESG strategy and has played a pivotal role in developing various sustainability initiatives in her previous role for a publicly listed global financial technology company. Some of these projects included leading the transition to a sustainable supplier for e-waste and redefining the social impact strategy throughout the organisation. Ella also has experience in sustainability reporting and communications.

She has gained a certificate in Business Management from the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership course which helped her gain valuable insight on the business case for change and leadership for action.

Ella is currently an Associate member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA).

Elodie Irons

Graduate Consultant

Elodie recently joined Simply Sustainable as a Graduate Consultant, after obtaining her master’s degree in International Relations and Security from the University of Liverpool. As a passionate social justice advocate, she volunteered as a Childline counsellor alongside her studies, providing one-to-one mental health support to hundreds of young people across the UK via online chat, email, and telephone.

Elodie’s passion for addressing social injustices led her to Amsterdam in 2023, where she embarked on a full-time internship as a Policy and Project Lead at the Impact Economy Foundation. This non-profit start-up organisation is dedicated to accelerating the transition to an impact economy, where work, innovation, and entrepreneurship contribute to solving critical global challenges such as climate change, poverty, and inequality. Having extensively researched the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) throughout her internship, Elodie has developed a fervent interest in responsible corporate governance and is committed to helping organisations make more sustainable choices.

As a Graduate Consultant here at Simply Sustainable, she specialises in supporting large organisations as they prepare for their first reporting year under the CSRD. This includes working closely with clients to discuss the relevant disclosure requirements for their businesses, and hosting workshops aimed at facilitating their understanding and compliance with regulations.

George Davison

George is Commercial Operations Manager at Simply Sustainable. He comes from a farming background where he has been part of various environmental projects, which first sparked his interest in sustainability and the environment. George then went on to study at the Royal Agricultural University, where he attained a BSc in Agricultural Business.

Before becoming a member of the Simply Sustainable team, George joined us from William Evans, where he gained over two years of experience in sales delivering bespoke products/proposals to meet clients’ needs in the UK and overseas. George now wishes to incorporate his passion for sustainability into his career path.

Being a member of the Client Development team, George is responsible for cultivating and developing prospective clients while maintaining and developing strong relationships with the existing client base.

Kate Turner

Executive Assistant and HR Administrator

Kate is a skilled EA with excellent organisational skills. Her role at Simply Sustainable is to support the CEO and CFO in driving the international and national growth of the business. Since joining Simply Sustainable in 2021, she is responsible for organisational development, including updating the company’s HR processes and introducing an enhanced benefit package for the team. A confident public speaker, she leads team briefings and ensures the team is aligned and updated on all significant organisational changes. Kate oversees all recruitment into Simply Sustainable, as well as the onboarding of Simply Sustainable’s first graduate in-take. In addition, Kate is responsible for procuring new office space – nationally and internationally.

Over the past 12 years, Kate has worked across the Motor Industry and the NHS, delivering exceptional customer service to her customers and patients.

In her previous role, Kate led a successful service team of both technicians and administrative staff, at BMW and Audi, as an Aftersales Manager before moving to a large GP practice as a Medical Secretary. In 2020 she had the opportunity to take a role alongside this managing the day to day running of a Covid Vaccination Centre.

Kate has proven capabilities in managing well-known brands by improving processes, productivity, staff satisfaction, and customer experience.

Lia Locke

Marketing Manager

Lia is the Marketing Manager at Simply Sustainable and brings with her over 10 years’ experience in the retail industry. Her career began at Sweaty Betty and she then went on to help manage a portfolio of external businesses from Virgin Holidays and Nike through to Mango and Hobbs plus many more at large retail groups.

Working closely on each brand’s marketing campaigns and trading events has given Lia the knowledge to create forward thinking and modern strategies fit for Simply Sustainable. Lia’s objective is to build a digital marketing framework for Simply Sustainable that allows for interactive experiences and optimises smart insights.

Lia’s background and areas of expertise encompass a wide scope of skillsets which include stakeholder management, data analysis, project management, sales strategies, reporting and communications.

Annie Gardiner

Marketing Executive

Annie has joined Simply Sustainable with an MA in Graphic Design and Art Direction and a BA in Creative Advertising.

During her BA degree, Annie found herself drawn to using her creativity for positive change in every avenue, from her undergraduate dissertation focusing on greenwashing in the advertising industry, to innovatively applying her skillset when producing her final project using recycled materials and sustainable printing techniques in her MA.

Outside of her career, Annie has used her knowledge of the events industry, sustainability, and social media to curate an inclusive Music and Arts festival that has the priority of nature and wellbeing at the forefront as well as using the platform to promote an inclusive and diverse variety of music and workshops.

With exceptional design and analytical capabilities, Annie wishes to showcase Simply Sustainable’s ambitions and strategy through engaging content and innovative marketing outputs.

Louise Willcocks

Finance Manager

Louise is the Finance Manager at Simply Sustainable. She started her career obtaining a degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Bristol. She then joined KPMG, in Middle Markets Audit, where she gained her ICAEW Chartered Accountant ACA qualification.

After qualifying, Louise went into industry gaining the majority of her experience in the media and investment banking sector. In these roles she was responsible for the day to day running of the accounting processes with a focus on financial and board reporting, budgeting and the filing of the annual accounts.

Chris Goodman

Associate Consultant

Chris has 20 years of experience in environmental management, largely gained within the energy and infrastructure industry. He holds a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia and received his MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing from the University of Wales in 2000.

Chris worked as an Environmental Advisor within Shell UK and BP Exploration for around 9 years, supporting onshore and offshore oil and gas operations and projects in the UK and Europe. In these roles, his key responsibilities included assuring all aspects of environmental compliance; developing, maintaining and auditing ISO14001-certified environmental management systems (EMS); compiling, assuring, analysing and reporting environmental data; and driving improved environmental data forecasting and performance management processes. Since 2009, Chris has worked as a consultant, focussing on the identification and management of environmental risk and the integration of environmental impact assessment, regulatory requirements and international standards within the design development process. He has also undertaken specific projects related to EMS improvement and the implementation of environmental management and sustainability strategies.

Emma Young

Associate Consultant

Emma is passionate about the power of communication and story to inspire and create positive, authentic change. Operating across the communications spectrum from strategy creation to sustainability report writing, programme development and deployment, Emma has worked with a wide range of organisations, from small charities to multinationals.

With a background in marketing and PR, Emma has more than 20 years experience in the profession, nine of which at BT Group where she created and oversaw the delivery of the global sustainability communication strategy. Emma is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (ICRS) and the RSA. She is also an Accredited Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).

Sam Somerville

Associate Consultant

With over 15 years of management system experience spanning across the public and private sector, Sam has been supporting Simply Sustainable clients to implement or improve their systems since 2017.

As a principle UK expert for quality management systems, and as a lead auditor for ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 and 45001:2018, Sam takes a practical and business-focused approach to help organisations build quality, sustainability and safety into their operations to meet the requirements of standards for quality, environment and health and safety.

She uses her experience of a breadth of industries to work collaboratively with clients to support the development of lasting improvements in their performance to help maximise opportunities for long-term growth.
